How many times, walking down the street, do our eyes cross those of other people? Who hasn’t ever tried to understand, through a look, the person in front of him and wondered: who is he? What does he want to say? It is clear that if you meet someone armed with a camera, our expressions suddenly change. There isn’t any more complicity between the two: we are observed, we try to hide behind conventional expressions. With this project I try not to be the photographer but a common person who walks on the street. There isn’t any camera in the foreground, only the eyes. With my camera resting on my stomach, I take what really happens, not a pose of the moment but a desire to communicate. With this technique I have tried to highlight the true expression, to exchange a simple look with passers-by. The people you meet on the street have so many stories to tell, even the small daily happenings; you can feel what they really would like to tell you. With this project, “Amsterdam soul view”, I am trying to capture the true essence of people, from a very close perspective, that comes in contact with something personal, like showing the expression of the soul.
